The London Assembly has been forced to adjourn after Sadiq Khan was heckled and an audience member threw something from the public gallery.
GB News understands the item was a letter for Sadiq Khan, thrown by a member of the audience.
A source inside the room said a man wearing a surgical mask was seen walking up to the glass protecting assembly members.
He is said to have thrown an envelope into the room, before heckling the Mayor, shouting: "Can you answer the question please Sadiq?"
A member of the London Assembly then said: "Chair, can we stop please? Someone's just thrown something at me."
A security guard was called into the room to remove the item and escort the man out, before the meeting adjourned for five minutes.
The London Assembly meeting saw Khan defend his record in office, saying he is "immensely proud" of his achievements.
He was also forced to defend his controversial Ulez policy, which has faced criticism from people across London after it was expanded earlier this year.
The London Mayor has claimed Ulez will bring cleaner air to five million more people and stressed the significance of expanding the scrappage scheme.
Conservative mayoral candidate Susan Hall has vowed to scrap the levy if she is elected.
She used the assembly meeting to criticise the policy, accusing Khan of "punishing Londoners"
She claimed: “Approximately £68million has been taken from many Londoners with your Ulez expansion.
